OrthoTec Europe 2012: A highly-regarded congress and trade fair for the orthopaedic industry

Almost 600 directors and engineers from leading and medium OEMs attended the third edition of OrthoTec Europe on September 12 and 13 2012 – the congress that focuses on innovation in the design and manufacture of orthopaedic implants and instruments.

In the exhibition hall at the Mövenpick Hotel in Zurich-Regensdorf, visitors were able to meet and exchange with some 70 exhibiting companies about the latest trends, innovations and developments in the manufacture of implantable orthopaedic devices.

Exhibitor feedback emphasised the quality of the event, with frequent praise for things such as; the increased attendance by senior commissioning figures who came with concrete projects; the event’s strategic location in an area where leading industry actors are concentrated; and the event’s scheduling. It demonstrates that OrthoTec Europe, which has now taken place for the third time, is highly regarded in the orthopaedics market – a point confirmed by Dr Martin Schmidt, International Marketing at Jossi Orthopedics Ltd. who said, “The organisation, the well-chosen venue, and the clear focus on orthopaedics make this congress and trade fair the perfect opportunity to meet customers, colleagues, and other players in the sector. Not least for that reason, we have already booked our place for 2013.”

There was great interest in the Investment Hub, which ran for the first time at the event. This platform, devised by UBM Canon, was aimed at bringing inventors and project sponsors together with manufacturers and international investors in the initial stages of the innovation process, in order to explore new partnership opportunities. “Mission accomplished”, confirms Event Manager Aurore Domange.  “Innovation is one of the drivers in competition. It takes many forms, and is individual to everyone. This was an opportunity to share and to challenge conceptions, at one of these two half-day platforms rich in exchanges.”

The high points of the two days were the congress events and workshops, attracting over 150 delegates. This third congress lived up to expectations and it was acclaimed by professionals for the quality of the speakers, the topics covered and for its specialist focus on the latest trends and innovations addressed to the global medical device industry for orthopaedics.

Many exhibitors have seen this 3rd edition as a sign of quality that has already encouraged them to confirm their participation in the forthcoming OrthoTec Europe 2013 event.
The orthopaedic sector will be meeting again in Zurich from 23 to 24 October 2013.
